Yellow Swirl 600 Instant Film Camera

We didn’t set out to create this swirl it came to us as a happy accident. Every so often a swirled part or two is created as a byproduct of our injection molding process.

When switching between different colors of the same part, the new color is fed into the machine to push the old color out. This generally results in a few muddy blends, with no real definition between colors. But every so often, for one or two glorious presses, the colors balance, swirling together but not fully mixing. Each time a bit different.

There are no pre-existing swirledinstant cameras both because Polaroid rarely molded colored plastic in the 80s (they almost always just did black) and because strict adherence to a uniform, mass-market production standard would have sent such parts to the trash. These one-of-a-kind swirling patterns are our favorite little mutants of our larger manufacturing process.
